Sol: A Mirrored Canvas

“I think of a child's mind as a blank book. During the first years of his life, much will be written on the pages. The quality of that writing will affect his life profoundly.” — Walt Disney. Children have a variety of talents to learn over a long period of time and are born prepared to learn. Kids look to parents, relatives, and other caretakers as their first teachers in order to acquire the necessary abilities to become independent and enjoy happy, healthy lives. The experiences a kid encounters between other individuals and the outside environment have a significant impact on how their brain develops. The growth of the brain depends on the mind's nurturing care. Children develop and learn best in a secure setting with plenty of opportunity for play and exploration, where they are shielded from abuse and acute or ongoing stress. The growth of a child’s mind is highly dependent on the environment he or she grew in as kids tend to observe and imitate what they see regardless o...

Deleter: A Psychologically Messed-up Main Character

Image
I watched Deleter when it first got released in the cinemas. When the trailer was released, I immediately had the urge to watch it because the trailer looked great and Nadine Lustre was playing the main character—more reasons for me to watch it. After that, I searched for a friend to watch it with because I want to have someone to discuss the movie with. I remember not understanding it after watching the movie. It confused me a lot but after reading online reviews, it made sense to me. Inevitably, the female protagonist’s deteriorating mental state causes her delusions and anxiety as she experiences sleep deprivation, no socialization, and violent exposure. Before discussing the psychological aspects of the movie, I will explain first what Deleter is about. Deleter is about an online content moderator who was asked by her boss to delete a suicide video of her co-worker. After this, a series of unexplained events starts happening which also unravels her disturbing past. Source: Tempo.co...

Socialization over Cognition

Draft Title : Assuming Theories Introduction : Pink. Dress. Pretty. Barbie. Laces. Ribbons. All of these words are often associated with girls or femininity. Those words are often associated with me. My dresses are pink. Everytime I wear a ribbon, I would often get described as pretty. I wondered why. As I grew up, I realized that gender fluidity made all of these. In terms of possibilities, social roles, and relationships, the gender perspective examines how gender affects these factors. Consequently, gender development is constantly changing as there are several variations that alter with time and shift from one culture to another as societies develop and change as backed up by theories. Body : According to the Psychology class I am currently enrolled in, there are several Gender Development Theories. However, I am only going to share and discuss a few that I agree with. The first one is the Social Learning Theory of Albert Bandura. This theory suggests that children learn through ob...

Kassandra: Unheeded Prophetess

Draft Title: Unheeded Prophetess Introduction: Unheeded Prophetess Cassandra: A Trojan priestess of Apollo who is cursed by being disregarded. Women have always been regarded as a powerful being in the beginning. We were treated as goddesses. However, one day, this perspective suddenly changed and now, men are the powerful ones. In the present times, movements for women lead by women show progression in our society. However, I was born during those times where women are regarded as "second best" next to men; or sometimes, never at all. The idea of women's capabilities being disregarded has always been interesting to me because I don't understand the basis of this attitude towards women. Is this because of the patriarchal system from colonization? I don't know. Nonetheless, I do know that I have been disregarded ever since. Body 1: Growing up Growing up in a patriarchal system as a woman is like sinking in the middle of the ocean. Even if you learned how to swim, y...
